Adrianna had her first open heart surgery at 2 months old on August 26th, 2012 at Boston Children's Hospital.
It was the scariest day of my life. We went into the hospital two days early to get prepped and ready for the big day (so we thought). We are in the hospital room for a couple of hours and her roommate started crying. Adrianna did not like noises at all. She then started freaking out crying and screaming. For her we weren't suppose to let her cry because she turns blue and stops breathing. She was hooked up to all the monitors so the second she started in the montiors started beeping like crazy and like 100 drs, nurses and more came charging in. I got pushed aside and was so scared and nervous. I had no idea what happened and what was going on. They wheeled her out in a blink of an eye. I was left alone in the room crying and so scared. Her father was working because he wanted to get a couple more days in before her surgey, and my parents were driving down from NY still. A nurse then came in and told me what happened. She went into cardiac arrest and needed to go into emergency surgery. They said they couldn't waste a second they needed her in asap. That's why I got pushed out of the way so they could get moving. At first I couldn't believe they would push me out of the way from my daughter but I then knew why and was thankful they did that so they could get moving. Her father and parents then got there and we just waited for her to be done. The surgery lasted over 8 hours. It was kind of funny in a way once I knew she was in surgery I was able to calm down. It's like I knew everything was going to be ok now. It was more scary watching her go into cardiac arrest infront of my eyes. After her surgey she was taken to the ICU and was there for 2 days and then transferred to the floor. They couldn't believe how well she was doing. Usually people are in the ICU for more then 2 days. They were calling her super star and rock star. She was on the floor for 4 days and then we got to go home. We are so thankful that she was able to be at the hospital that is number 1 in children's cardiology. I will never for get that day but SOOO extremely glad she is doing sooo much better now. We just have to keep hoping and praying everything continues to go well with her health and surgeries in the future.
